Below is a timeline showing important dates in the history of Shoreham Oratorio Choir 

 

2003 to present... 

 

2003 - Easter - Celebration of the 900th Anniversary of St. Mary de Haura.

 

2004 - June - Concert for Adur Arts Festival.

         - September - First use of Methodist Church as rehearsal venue.

         - Neil Jenkins becomes 'President' of Shoreham Oratorio Choir.

         - October - Concert dedicated to the memory of Michael Ades.

 

2005 - March - Concert at Lancing College Chapel - roof repairs at St. Mary de                  Haura.

         - June - Charity Concert (Global Action Nepal) at Methodist Church.

         - December - Christmas Concert at Lancing College Chapel. First ticketed                  concert.

 

2006 - April - Concerts back at St. Mary de Haura.

      - April - Good Friday concert dedicated to the memory of Dennis Bird.

         - Autumn - Workshop with Penny Jenkins.

         - Sept/Oct - Visit of Elmshorn Madrigalchor to S.O.C. Shoreham-by-Sea.

 

2007 - April - Good Friday concert dedicated to the memory of Jim Baker.

         - April - First use of the website.

         - June - Charles Wesley Celebration Concert - Methodist Church.

         - December - Laurence Bradley final concert as pianist.

 

2008 - March - Good Friday concert dedicated to memory of John Melville.

         - Muriel Hart takes over as pianist.

         - June - The Armed Man - joint concert with Chanctonbury Chorus at

            Lancing College Chapel.

         - September - Nicola Grunberg joins as S.O.C. pianist.

 

2009 - April - Concert prgrammes - £2

         - June - Visit of S.O.C. to Elmshorn, Germany.

 

2010 - January - Epiphany Concert.

 

2011 - April - S.O.C. 50th Anniversary Concert.

         - June - Concert at Lancing College Chapel, with Chanctonbury Chorus.

         - October - Concert with Madrigalchor at St. Michael & All Angels, Brighton.

         - December - All four concert soloists come from Lancing College.

 

2012 - May - Group of S.O.C. members attend the 'Big Sing' at Royal Albert Hall               to perform the Mozart Requiem.

         - August - Small choir invited to sing at Lancing College Chapel wedding.

         - September - Handel Workshop at St. Mary de Haura.

         - December - Christmas Concert - with support for Macmillan Cancer

           Charity.

 

2013 - January - Death of Lawrence Bradley is announced.

         - March - Good Friday concert is dedicated to the memory of Lawrence          Bradley.

         - May - Some members join with Sussex Chorus to sing Haydn's Creation.

         - September - S.O.C. helps Penny Jenkins with 'Raise the Roof' concert

            for St. Peter's Church, Upper Beeding.

         - October - Visit of S.O.C. to Elmshorn Madrigalchor, Germany.

 

2014 - May - Really Big Chorus - Members of S.O.C. sing at Royal Albert Hall.

         - July - S.O.C. sing at Penny Jenkins' 'At Your Request' concert at

           St. Peter's, Upper Beeding.

         - September - Vivaldi Gloria workshop at St. Mary de Haura.

         - December - Christmas Concert dedicated to the memory of Tony Hill.

 

2015 - January - Angie Letteboer appointed Chairman of S.O.C.

         - October - Last visit of Elmshorn Madrigalchor to Shoreham-by-Sea.

            The Madrigalchor has sadly since disbanded.

 

2016 - January - Tony Allen's farewell concert as Conductor.

      - January - Nicola Grunberg's final concert as pianist.

         - January - Josh Urben - Premiere of 'Journey'.

         - Marc Yarrow becomes 'Musical Director' of S.O.C.

      - Tim Nail joins S.O.C. as 'Rehearsal Accompanist'.

      - March - Marc Yarrow - First concert.

         - June - Summer concert at St. Giles' Church, Shoreham-by-Sea.

 

2017 - March -Tim Nail - Premiere of his 'Stabat Mater', at St. Paul's Church,

           West Street, Brighton.

         - No Good Friday concert at St. Mary de Haura - Replaced by Spring

           Concert at request of the Church.

         - July - Methodist Church - Summer concert in aid of Avocado Tree

           School, Nicaragua.

         - September - Faure Requiem workshop, Southwick Methodist Church.

         - December - First use of social media - Facebook.

 

2018 - February - S.O.C. mentioned on Classic FM radio.

         - June - 'Make Music Day' - S.O.C. perform on Coronation Green,

           Shoreham-by-Sea.

         - July - S.O.C. new logo introduced.

         - July - First concert programme in colour.

         - July - 2nd concert at Methodist Church in aid of Avocado Tree School.

         - Autumn - Isabel Costello appointed Chairman of S.O.C.

         - December - Premiere of Tim Nail's ' Fields of White'.

 

2019 - October - Carmina Burana (Carl Orff) workshop at Southwick Methodist                 Church.

         - December - Concert supports local foodbank with supplies plus £540.

 

2020 - March / April - Pandemic forces cancellation of 'The Armed Man'

           concert at Shoreham Academy and open rehearsal at Southwick

           Methodist Church.

         - Summer On-Line singing using Zoom

         - Autumn On-Live singing using Zoom - First half of term 'Rutter Requiem'

            second half term Christmas Music.

 

2021 -
